Wellington Hotel Full English Breakfast

Wellington Hotel Full English Breakfast – Bristol Road

I have been asked a few times by the Wellington Hotel to try out their breakfast. After a rather enjoyable evening, the night before, a Full English was exactly what I needed.

Its an unusual place. A handsome building, stood proudly on the corner of Birmingham’s Gay District, on the Bristol Road. As you enter, for such a big building, its quite small.

There are only a few tables, all of which were taken, so the bar person invited me to use the back room: Its strange. Its sort of old working mans club, but if you look up, the arched ceiling is amazing. Back in the day, it was obviously a very, very well to do place. Its looking a bit tired now, but I still loved it, (especially when the chef/server came out from the stage!)

Breakfast was a ridiculously cheap £5.50 with free coffee refils. I said to Paul the chef, that it was too cheap, he said it wasnt. Who am I to argue?

The service was very ‘happy’. I had my mug of coffee and a slice of toast served to me after about a 5 minute wait. The breakfast came out about 20 minutes after that. Its a shame, as I had eaten my toast by then.

Breakfast was hotter than the sun. I had asked for my beans separately – they duly oblidged. 2 thick rashers of bacon, 2 ‘herby’ sausages, tinned tomatoes, black pudding, fried egg, mushrooms and 2 hash browns. It was hangover heaven. The ingredients are cheap, (they have to be for the price they are selling the breakfast at), however all were cooked to perfection. As I left, I noticed an A-board, advertising the best breakfast ever. Its not. It is however, bloody good. If the quality of the ingredients were better and the setting was nicer, it would have resulted in a 9 or 10. Because of the time I had to wait and the setting I thought it was an ‘8 egg’ rating. Then I took the price into consideration, which raised it to a 9/10 eggs.

If you love a greasy spoon, if you enjoyed the breakfast at the Little Chef, if you are suffering with a hangover, or just want a cracking breakfast – you will totally love this place!
