Two things that usually make me cringe and run for the nearest independent café are ‘chains’ and the ubiquitous All You Can Eat buffet banner. It generally means they pile cheap produce high and “Never mind the quality look at the quantity!!!” I can honestly say that this most definitely NOT the case at this Beefeater.
The breakfast consists of a continental buffet with good quality ingredients followed by a cooked to order full English, selected from a menu of all the usual items.
The continental selection includes Costa tea & coffee and range of standard fruit juices (not the weak watered down varieties experienced in many major hotels), pastries and croissants, crumpets, pancakes, muffins and bread for the toaster. A pleasant note that the selection of spreads, even late in the sitting, still included a decent strawberry jam and Nutella! There are also fruits (a fruit salad & a compote). Yeo Valley yoghurt and Kellogg cereals. I sampled the pastries whilst my wife hit the crunchy nut. Both good. Tea and coffee were both acceptable as were the juices – perfectly drinkable and not sweetened!
For the main event, we both ordered bacon, sausages, beans, mushrooms, hash browns and fried eggs. I forgot to specify the beans ‘on the side’ so as Simon would say the plate was contaminated.
You seem to be able to order as much as you want, but we stayed to normal levels ( 2 of all the main items) Bacon was reasonably thick and very large rashers, sausages smallish but meaty & herby – nice, hash browns actually served crispy and the eggs were excellent – properly cooked with a thick set white and the yolks as requested. All-in-all everything was cooked properly and presented well. The big surprise was how good it all was. It was not too greasy and the quality was excellent. Service was great through-out, the staff helpful and polite.
I would give it 8/10. For value it is 9/10 for us. (if we had taken up to 4 kids on the current deal they would have been free – that would be 11/10). I have averaged it at an excellent 9/10.
Note. The staff mentioned that where there is a Beefeater next to Premier Inn that has less than 100 bedrooms they offer this sort of service; if there are more than 100 rooms then it is a buffet for all items.
