You get over the fact that the signage is well and truly past its best. This place is run by Jane. It is very rare that you meet anyone that has been running a cafe for 15 years. With Jane, you will. She was amazing. By the time we left, we knew that she had a grandchild, doesnt babysit on Saturdays and made the best tea and coffee ever! She epitomises the perfect host.
The menu is on the wall behind Jane’s serving counter. Its also on the back wall:
I ordered the All Day Large Breakfast at £4.90. It includes a tea or coffee. Incredible value.
The presentation isnt great. I orderd my breakfast without beans, (thinking that they would contaminate the fried egg). I forgot about the tomatoes.
The bacon was thick and perfectly cooked. The sausages were super cheap – but perfect for a greasy spoon. Mushrooms, (I swapped beans for mushrooms), were good, as was the black pudding. The egg was fried to perfection – just ruined a bit by the tomato juice being everywhere. You get 2 rounds of toast, (but you can have fried bread or bread and butter).
Its difficult to rate something like this. The price means that I cant really compare it with the high end breakfasts, however its a cracking greasy spoon. 3 of us, (all breakfast bloggers), enjoyed our breakfast. Scores ranged from 6 – 7 out of 10, however we all agreed that we had to lift the score by 1 because of Jane.
Final score was 8/10 eggs. Birmingham Breakfast Club Recommended.
